The team at Amy Rose Consulting (ARC) has first-hand experience with the gradual transition of work to offshore suppliers. As both the expertise and the relationships become more robust, the number of projects that are being offshored is growing exponentially. Although the offshore model has proven to be quite successful, working internationally comes with its own unique challenges. These can include miscommunication, misunderstandings, and assumptions arising from cultural and language differences and barriers. We have learned that the most successful solutions are derived from close collaboration between the customer and the supplier. When working together to craft a project plan, it is in everyone’s best interest to create a solution that leverages the skill sets and talents of a varied, proficient, and multicultural team. ARC is able to identify those portions of a project that are best managed offshore, both for the technical expertise required as well as for the cost-efficiencies that can be achieved. However, there will invariably be components of a project that will need to be managed by an onshore team. These will most likely include content creation and content management, project management, editorial services, as well as being able to rely on a more “local” (U.S.-based) point of contact, should issues arise.
